I attended Sarah Bell’s workshop on “Sea, Sky and Boats”. Her expertise is stunning and she is able to solve every student’s difficulty with clear, immediate, technical advice. She knows watercolour from every angle, adhering to time honoured classical principles that are, without a doubt, of the highest Professorial standard. Her demonstrations are frequent, hugely useful, and technically perfect. Whether one is a professional, a beginner, an amateur or merely keen to know what the Great British …

A bit late, but the Magic of Watercolours was a really fun day with lots of painting and ideas that were new to me. Using quite cheap paints, pastels and bits of card the effects were quite stunning. As ever, Sarah builds such confidence that ‘having a go’ just seems normal. Lovely group and lunch, mmmmm. I’m looking forward to the next one.
It was inspirational! Sarah demonstrated different techniques and made it all look so easy. She spent time with everyone, building their confidence. With each new technique there was a handout explaining all the details (useful at home). We talked of composition, form and colour with the helpful eye of our tutor, who was genuinely pleased with our attempts. I have signed up for another session.

Recently attended the one day beginners workshop. Slightly apprehensive as never painted since my school days and am not at all artistic. It was really interesting and has given me a good insight into the watercolour world. Sarah is so easy to listen to and inspires you with her passion for painting.
The day started in Sampsons Restaurant over morning coffee. It gave us all a chance to relax, which was very reassuring. Sarah put everyone at ease with her lovely, bubbly personality. Sarah’s instruction was very clear, and backed up with well prepared notes for everyone. In the afternoon, the full extent of Sarah’s experience and expertise became apparent. She seemed to find almost unlimited time for each of us, coming round regularly to offer help and support. There was no pressure, yet I…

What a fantastic workshop! I attended the 2 day Watercolours for Beginners course and have been wonderfully inspired. Sarah is a brilliant tutor and explains everything so clearly. I was amazed at the pictures I produced over the two days. We were a group of seven and all got on so well, it was a lovely way to learn. Will definitely be on another course in the near future. Thanks Sarah.
A fabulous two days with Sarah, my friend Wendy and four other ladies getting to grips with Acrylics! Really good fun in class which was relaxed but educational I learnt a great deal. We also had amazing food at Sampsons Farm over the two days. I hope very much to do another workshop with Sarah in the near future.
Sarah’s workshops are inspiring, relaxing and most of all great fun. The watercolours are as vibrant and lovely as Sarah herself who is a natural teacher to even the most nervous pupil. She makes it look so easy and breaks things down to simple shapes which gives you confidence to really have a go and produce your own individual pictures. I have been doing workshops for three years now and have met some lovely people to chat to over the delicious lunch. I can’t wait to get to the next workshop.
I went to the drawing workshop yesterday and enjoyed it immensely. I had tried to draw but found that I had lost all of the skill I had built up many years ago. However just during this one day workshop I was amazed at how much was achieved and really proud of the drawings I took home. Thank you Sarah for a really great day and I now feel inspired with more confidence to practice more.
Had a lovely time at the workshop. A friendly setting, delicious food and a great teacher. In just one day, Sarah managed to give us enough basics to enable us to start making beautiful paintings straight away. I have always loved watercolour paintings but was not brave enough to try it myself; after the workshop, I now have the confidence to do it. I especially enjoyed the colour mixing exercise which showed us the potential of creating endless different shades using only 3 primary colours. Tha…
