Do you dream of being by the sea, losing yourself in examining rock pools, bringing home seaweed, shells, sea glass, or driftwood, and spending a few magical days drawing them and making stunning paintings, drawings and collages inspired by your seashore treasure?
Then this is the perfect course for you!
This will be a beautiful workshop, where we take time to really look at what the seashore brings us, and how we can interpret it. There’ll be an emphasis on mindful drawing and appreciating the life of the sea.
Suitable for any level including confident beginners, as I’ll be able to give you lots of individual attention.
What you’ll do:
Day One: We’ll have a guided rock pool safari along the shoreline at Penzance with lots of time to make sketches and take photos for inspiration.
We’ll take some special bits and pieces, perhaps a few shells, some foraged seaweed, coloured and striated pebbles, and other found treasures back to the studio to start work. I have lots of seaside treasure in the studio too!
We’ll spend time really looking very carefully (even with looking glasses to get really up close) to get to know our finds and then do some large drawings in ink and charcoal .
Day two: we’ll experiment with making coloured collage papers to use in combination with ink to make some mixed media paintings based on our finds. I’ll show you some ways that you could try working in more abstract ways too if you’d like to have a go…. It’s up to you.
We’ll look at how to bring a collection of objects together to make an interesting composition.
We’ll celebrate the end of a very special few days with a glass of Prosecco and an appreciation of all our creative work. Can’t wait!
